On January 15, 2010, the remaining $4+ billion in Broadband Stimulus Funding was released under NOFA #2. With less than 60 days remaining before the March 15 funding submission deadline, there is little time to waste. Join us at 11 AM CST on February 3, 2010 for an analysis and executive summary of NOFA 2 Rules and an overview of CTI's Round 2 Grant Program for small business.

RUS Prepares to Fund Satellite Projects
Satellite service grants will be accepted for specific areas (the map showing those areas has not yet been published).
Satellite service is designed for those areas where wireline and wireless won't work, where either would cost over $10,000 per home connected.
RUS is More Flexible in Round Two
The definition of broadband is 768 / 200 Kbps but there is also a definition of high speed, which is 5 Mbps symmetrical. Any area without high speed service can be underserved, which opens up a large portion of the country to grants.

Senate Bill Looks To Boost Broadband Investment
Senator Kay Bailey Hutchison (R-TX), ranking member of the Senate Commerce Committee, has introduced legislation that would boost broadband deployment via financial incentives like tax credits and create new government offices and panels to vet government investments in a variety of broadband programs.
The Connecting America Act creates a tax credit of limited duration--it is meant to stimulate investment over the next five years and put the emphasis on the private sector, rather than government, in getting broadband to remaining "unserved" areas.
